A RESOLUTION
Whereas, in 1939, Lake Charles Junior College was established and Dr. Francis G. Bulber was appointed as director of the newly established department of music, and
Whereas, the work of George Fredrick Handel's oratorio titled The Messiah , which was first performed in 1741,was chosen by Dr. Bulber to teach the students this timeless work, and perform it for the community, and
Whereas Dr. Bulber and Dr. Malcolm Leveque organized the first Messiah board to enable this work to be performed yearly at the auditorium, now named the Francis G Bulber Auditorim in 1939, and
Whereas this performance established the first tradition at McNeese and has thus been sustained for Eighty Performances, with vocal students being featured at soloists, and community members from the five parish area, many of whom have been a member for decades,
Whereas, we wish to express appreciation for the work of the faculty of Department of Performing Arts at McNeese and the administration of McNeese State University for helping to continue this tradition to open the Christmas season for the city of Lake Charles and surrounding area, and
Whereas we recognize Colette Bulber Tanner, daughter of Dr. Francis G. Bulber, as she conducts her tenth year of this historic performance, and her mother, Patricia Bulber, Dr. Bulber's wife, who has performed for over 60 years, to come back from the historic season of hurricanes, ice storms, and flooding,
THEREFORE, be it resolved this as this eightieth performance of Handel's The Messiah held the first Sunday in December, remains an annual joy and blessing in the continuation for both McNeese State University and the citizens of Lake Charles and the Southwest Louisiana.
